In the recent past, theatre students in the Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts found that although the Mainstage productions offered many valuable opportunities, students who were interested in directing, playwriting, and design required outlets to practice what they were learning in the classroom. Seeking the time, money, and resources to take the knowledge acquired in their theatre classes and apply it in the creation of live performance, a core group of students raised their concerns in a student/faculty forum. From this meeting, Student Production Board was born. We believe that SPB's Prism Theatre Company fills a need among theatre students to explore new ideas, to experiment with form, to take risks in a supported environment, and to challenge themselves and their audience. We believe that by providing young artists with the opportunity to try, we are helping to create the next generation of vital and imaginative theatre artists and educators.
